"FOUR WALLS AND A DESK WORKS FOR CONTROLLING LARGE NUMBERS OF CHILDREN.  IT DOES NOT WORK FOR EMPOWERING, INSPIRING, AND FOSTERING LIFE-LONG LEARNERS WHO WILL BECOME THE CHANGEMAKERS THAT WE SO DESPERATELY NEED."

AN EDUCATION REVOLUTION

The Wild School experience goes beyond four walls.  We go beyond mastering core subjects in order to develop critical and creative thinkers with a growth mindset.   We need education to inspire students to innovate, find purpose, love learning, and make a positive impact on the world.

OUR CLASSROOM IS LIFE, OUR CAMPUS IS THE NATURAL WORLD

We foster curiosity in learning through hands-on experiences and an inquiry-based approach to learning. Our thinking is critical and our lessons are rooted in problem solving and relevant examples.  Yukon Wild School students will be immersed in a forest setting for a significant amount of their instructional time, and Yukon First Nations Ways of Knowing, Doing, and Being will be honoured throughout our land-based instruction. We take the classroom outside and into the community - integrating real-world projects and opportunities.  Single and multi-day outdoor excursions based on age groupings and experience are integral to our programming.  Depending on the season, activities can include canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and camping, just to name a few!

EDUCATION IN MOTION

The world doesn't sit still.  The natural world is fluid, and so too should be the way in which we teach.  Our curriculum is living and moves with the opportunities presented and the interests of the students.  We strive to ignite curiosity and empower our students to play an active role in their education.  We nurture the whole child so that they can thrive with purpose in our rapidly changing world.

WHY IT WORKS

  • Small class sizes - teachers are able to focus their attention on each student.
  • Passionate educators - our staff is made up of talented Yukon certified teachers.
  • Emphasis on the outdoors - fresh air and open spaces inspire healthy brain and body activity.
  • An engaging curriculum - our ‘living curriculum’ based on student inquiry truly forms around the students' interests and the opportunities presented around us in nature and our community.
  • FUN! -  you can’t underestimate the power of fun in children’s learning.  The most enjoyable learning experiences are also the most memorable.
